The League of Urban Canners (LUrC) harvests unwanted fruit from more than a hundred public and private sites across Cambridge and neighboring Somerville, organizing as many as six or seven harvests each week during the growing season. In exchange for apples, apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, pears, cherries, blueberries, crabapples, figs, grapes, black walnuts, raspberries, quince and mulberries they prune trees, enhance soil, and manage pests. Their goal is to make low-cost food easily available while building community and reducing waste.
